As leather is a natural product, colour nuances are normal and colours might vary slightly from one product to another. Colour change will occur with time, due to use and the effect of light. Remember that furniture should be protected from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
All Ekornes leather colours are through-dyed. Some colours in the collection have been enhanced with a two tone effect. Ekornes is one of Europe’s major users of upholstery leather and its inspectors impose stringent standards of quality control.
It is important to remember that, although leather furniture is very hard-wearing, it will change in appearance over the years. Please note that bright white leathers are subject to greater risk of discolouring in use, for instance through the transfer of dye from strongly coloured clothes. There is a particular risk from denim or deep dyed fabrics which have not yet been washed or cleaned. Please take care, because Ekornes cannot accept liability for such damage.
Leather is an organic, preserved material. On a piece of furniture that is in daily use, exposed to external stress, it is important to be aware of the following if the leather is to be protected as long as possible:
• Leather fades when exposed to sunlight. Direct sunlight is particularly damaging.
• Leather is exposed daily to grease and dirt from hands, hair and clothing. It needs regular cleaning.
• Leather dries out from warm and dry air.
How do I care for my leather?
• Avoid direct sunlight. If the furniture is near a large window, use venetian blinds or awnings.
• Avoid placing leather near radiators or fan heaters.
• Avoid drying. Air humidity which is comfortable for you is best for the leather.
• Vacuum the leather carefully to remove dust particles.
• Clean the leather regularly to remove grease and dirt.
• Never clean with a microfibre cloth. The ability of a microfibre cloth to absorb grease may cause damage by removing essential protection from your leather furniture.
What care products should I use?
Start caring for your leather furniture immediately. Apply Stressless Leather Protection Cream, which can be purchased from your local Stressless supplier, to all surfaces, neck rests, armrests, seats, etc. The cream nurtures the leather and makes it more resistant to stains, including grease and perspiration.
For day to day care, wipe gently with a moist cloth, then buff with a soft, dry cloth. Frequent cleaning is recommended where hands, bare arms or heads rest against the hide. Avoid excessive wetting or rubbing.
To ensure that your furniture receives the best of care, Ekornes offers its own leather care products. The Stressless Leather Care kit contains a leather cleaner and a protection cream. You should apply the protector to all the surfaces in use (headrest, armrests, seats, etc) when the furniture is new and as a routine maintenance two or three times a year.
We recommend that the leather is cleaned with Stressless leather cleaner at least every six months. Rub gently, for as long as necessary but never rub hard. Always apply protection cream after cleaning. Pay particular attention to areas where you rest on the leather. If you follow these simple directions, you will be able to enjoy your furniture for many years.
